-This is a paid service not to be confused with our free assessment & estimate-
Our Comprehensive Homeowners/Homebuyers Wildfire Risk Assessment Will Tell You:
If a property could possibly pass or fail an insurance underwriters inspection.
What mitigation work would need to be done in order to pass an inspection.
An estimate on the cost to mitigate the prescribed scope-of-work.
-This report uses National Fire Protection Association (NFPA - Firewise USA) and Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS - Wildfire Prepared) standards. These are the standards that insurance underwriters use when performing inspections. These are also the standards, that if implemented, will best protect your home from igniting due to a wildfire.
-How do we know what insurance underwriters look for when inspecting a home & property for wildfire risk? Because, we have a 100% success rate at saving homeowners from losing their insurance once under an insurance demand to mitigate their home & property or lose their insurance.
-Your inspection is performed by or under the supervision of an NFPA Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist. The NFPA Specialist will also sign the final report.
-What’s in the report? We use our proprietary 59 point checklist covering 5 sections: Location = 9 Points; Access = 8 Points; Home/Structure = 17 Points; Defensible Space = 23 Points; If you have a Propane Tank = 2 Points. Since we’re the only wildfire mitigation contractor that does both Home Wildfire Hardening Retrofits and Defensible Space Mitigation, You’ll also receive a scope of work, if any work is required, and an estimate on the cost to perform the work.
This is a very comprehensive report that may be required by insurance companies under the appeal process to comply with Colorado State Law. This new law as signed by Governor Jared Polis on May 28, 2025 (HB25-1182), is due to come into affect July 1, 2026. It is recommended to get an assessment done prior to the new law taking affect. It is also highly recommended that every homebuyer have an assessment done prior to purchasing. This new law will help protect homeowners from losing their insurance if their home & property comply with mitigation standards.
The cost of the assessment is $400 if the property is in Durango or anywhere in La Plata County or Pagosa Springs to Hwy 84. There will be an additional travel charge if outside of this area. There may be an additional charge for additional structures or for assessing defensible space past 200 feet from the dwelling.
